South Dakota Manufacturing Extension Partnership

Approved for operation mid-year 2003, the SD MEP Center operates in conjunction with and under the direction of the ND MEP Center. (Both centers operate and share employee resources under the name of The Dakota Manufacturing Extension Partnership). Federal funding is provided through a cooperative agreement with NIST. The SD Department of Tourism and State Development provides a grant to assist with the program. In-Kind supports for the SD MEP currently include (1) staff supports from the SD Governor's Office of Economic Development, and (2) occupancy expenses from the SD GOED office at the SD Technology Business Center. Other funding and support is provided by the SD manufacturers and clients who pay for many of the services they receive. Center Director is Randy Schwartz from The Dakota Manufacturing Extension Partnership.

Testimonials

“The public sector also has a role to play in helping smaller companies improve their
innovation processes. One model is the Manufacturing Extension Partnership operated
by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which enables small and
medium-sized firms to tap the knowledge of business experts, including innovation
specialists.”

Booz/Allen/Hamilton,
